This story may sound like something out of a movie, but the difference is this one really happened.
If you're familiar with and enjoyed The Notebook, you'll love this story about a devoted couple that both passed away in while in adjacent hospital beds and holding hands.
They were Dennis and Audrey Fleetwood, 85 and 77 years old respectively. They barely spent any time apart during their entire 54 years of being married, their son Paul said. Their beds ended up being together at the end of their lives because the hospital staff was gracious enough to push their beds together.
Paul explains, "They pushed mom's bed into dad's room and removed the barrier so they could lay together. We put pillows between them so they could hold with each other comfortably."
At the time of her death, Mrs. Fleetwood had been hospitalized for several months as a result of complications following surgery. She was the grandmother of five and was also suffering from with mild dementia.

Dennis was admitted to the hospital with an acute case of pneumonia, and when nurses realized his condition was worsening they wheeled Audrey’s bed into his room.
Dennis passed away the day after he was hospitalized.
Paul said, “When we told dad he was holding mom’s hand he stopped struggling and was peaceful.”
Just two short days later, Audrey also passed away. “After dad died, mom just slipped away. They went together peacefully,” son Paul said.
Dennis had mentioned to Paul previously that he didn’t want to live without Audrey. In the end he didn’t have to.
